Our mission...
The Promethean Theatre (TPT) is a professional non-profit regional theatre company that seeks daring and
creative approaches to classical pieces as well as contemporary and new works that engage the imagination
and inspire passionate discourse among its artists and the audience.

The Promethean Theatre is the professional theatre company in residence at
Nova Southeastern University, Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences.

How we got here...
TPT was co-founded in 2004 by Deborah L. Sherman and Beth McIntosh as a means to provide an open and
collaborative artistic home to South Florida theatre artists and professionals.

PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, CO-FOUNDER
Deborah L. Sherman has worked at numerous theatres in South Florida both as an actor and technician. Some of her most recent work as
an actor includes
the role of Neasa in the critically acclaimed production of Conner McPherson's Shining City at GableStage.  Ms. Sherman
is proud of
originating the role of Conchita in the World Premiere Production of Nilo Cruz's Anna in the Tropics at New Theatre which won the
2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Some of her other South Florida theatre credits include Lindy Love in
House and Garden (Actor's Playhouse);
Rosanna Deluce in
Brilliant Traces (Hollywood Playhouse); Julia bryant in Ten Unknowns (Best Supporting Actress Miami Sun Post 2004,
GableStage); Emilia in
Othello, Olivia in Twelfth Night (New Theatre), as well as Yvnez in The Just Assassins and Sister Mary Margaret in The
Dreamer Who Unlocked the Secrets of the Univers
e both World Premieres (Dreamer's Theatre); Nora in Houseguest (Juggerknot Theatre);
Lil in
Last Summer at Bluefish Cove (Public Theatre) and Laura in The Glass  Menagerie (Runner-up Best Actress Miami Sun-Post 2002,
Theatre Illuminata). Some of Deborah's regional credits include Annie Sullivan in
The Miracle Worker and Phebe in As You Like It  
(Jefferson Theatre); Carnelle in The Miss Firecracker Contest (Gulf Coast Rep); Tansy in The Nerd and Steve in Cry Havoc (Theatre Guild).
Deborah is a current member of the Big Apple Circus' Clown Care Program at Miami Children's Hospital where she works one-on-one with
the children, their parents and hospital staff as a clown "nurse" bringing laughter to the bedsides of those that are hospitalized. She is also a
founding member of Theatre Illuminata, and was a principal performer with the Laughing Gas Improvisational Theatre. Deborah lives in
Miami with her amazing husband Adam, son Julian and their brood of animals.












RESIDENT DIRECTOR
Margaret M. Ledford hails from Chattanooga, Tennessee where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Speech from the
University of TN at Chattanooga. She studied Cubo-Expressionistic Scenography post WWI in an exchange program with Masaryk University
in Brno, Czech Republic. Before moving to Miami Margaret was a Production Assistant Off-Broadway for
Doctor! Doctor! at the Players
Theatre, Production Stage Manager for the historic Barter Theatre in VA, and co-founder/co-director for the Renegade Theatre Players in TN.
For The Promethean Theatre Margaret has directed
Orange Flower Water, Desdemona: A Play About a Handkerchief, Juan Sanchez's
Carbonell Nominated
Buck Fever and Red Tide, Blue/Orange, Two Rooms, A Number,  Cyrano, Two Sisters and a Piano. Margaret was also
a member of the Directing Ensemble of City Theatre's
Summer Shorts 2006 (Carbonell Nomination Best Ensemble) and 2007(Carbonell
Nomination Best Ensemble). Outside of TPT Ms. Ledford’s work was seen at Naked Stage where she directed
The Lonesome West. She
was also a member of the Directing Ensemble of
Summer Shorts 2008. Margaret worked for the Coconut Grove Playhouse from the Main
Stage to the Education Department, granting her the unique and terrific opportunity to work with many theatre artists such as Kathleen
Turner, Tony Randall, Jack Klugman, and Tony-award winning director Jack Hoffssiss.


DRAMATURG/ARTISTIC ASSOCIATE
Jane G. Duncan has completed her coursework toward the PhD in Theatre Studies from Florida State University and is working on her
dissertation, which is a study of the performance of national identity in Romania.  Her article “The (R)evolution of Romanian Theatre” was
recently published in the Scarecrow Press anthology Theatre and Performance in Eastern Europe: The Changing Scene.  Jane earned an
MFA in Acting from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and has worked professionally as an actor, director, dramaturg
and vocal coach in Atlanta, Chicago, Little Rock and Richmond.   Teaching experience includes two years as an Assistant Professor of
Theatre at the University of Central Arkansas, a year as Head of Drama at the Center for the Performing Arts at North Atlanta High School,
and over seven years teaching theatre to students ranging in age from 4-75.  Jane was also a Visiting Professor at Barry University  in Miami
Shores.  Additionally, Jane has worked with the Education and Outreach Departments with regional theatres TheatreVirginia (Richmond, VA)
and New American Theater (Rockford, IL).   











TECHNICAL DIRECTOR/MASTER CARPENTER
Ed Fitzpatrick is Nova Southeastern University’s Performing and Visual Arts Facilities Manager and has a BFA in Theatre Arts from Culver-
Stockton College in Canton, MO.   He worked as a technician for summer stock companies in Kentucky, Ohio, and Missouri before moving to
Florida in 1997.  Ed was the Assistant Technical Director at the Lake Worth Playhouse in Lake Worth for close to three years.  After that, he
moved on to the Caldwell Theatre Company in Boca Raton.  He was the Master Carpenter there for six and a half years.  During that time he
also worked as a carpenter and technician for Palm Beach Dramaworks in West Palm Beach.  He continues to work as a freelance
technician for area theaters.















SCENIC DESIGNER
Daniel Gelbmann received his M.F.A. in theatre design, specializing in scenic design, from the University of Hawaii, Manoa, in 2004. His
thesis was a traditional recreation of the Japanese play Nozaki Village, for which he worked alongside sensei Hitoshi Hamatani.  Mr.
Gelbmann also served as Technical Director for the Honolulu Theatre for Youth. Dan is a Visting Assistant Professor of Theatre at Nova
Southeastern University, where his recent designs include
The Women of Lockerbie, Left Hand Singing and Cinderella.  For TPT Two
Sisters and a Piano, Red TIde
(Fringe Cut).  










LIGHTING DESIGNER/MASTER ELECTRICIAN
Robert Coward has designed a variety of shows in the South Florida area including shows for The Promethean Theatre (Caryl Churchill’s A
Number, Two Sisters and a Piano
), Stage Door Theatre, Sol Children’s Theatre, the Broward Center and Coral Springs center for the arts,
where Robert currently works as the Master Electrician. Robert is also a Junior at Nova Southeastern University where he is pursuing
Bachelor Degrees in Theatre and Music.











RESIDENT PLAYWRIGHT
Juan C. Sanchezis the Resident Playwright of The Promethean Theatre. He studied theater at New World School of the Arts and Florida
State University. His first play, Buck Fever, was written as part of Downstage Miami (now called the Playwright Development Program), under
the mentorship of A.R. Gurney, Leslie Ayvazian and Eduardo Machado. Buck Fever received staged readings in Miami at Gablestage and
Juggerknot Theatre Company. It was originally developed by NY's terraNOVA Collective and produced at the Blue Heron Arts Center in 2004.
Buck Fever received its World Premiere as part of The Promethean Theatre's second season, earning a Carbonell nomination for Best New
Work. A collection of short plays was read by Promethean under the heading Back to School in 2006. Red Tide, also written as part of
Downstage Miami and mentored by Leslie Ayvazian, was workshopped at the Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis in August 2007. Mr.
Sanchez received another Carbonell Nomination for Best New Work and also received the Best New Play Award of 2008 from the New
Times for
Red Tide.  Red Tide travelled to the Minnesota Fringe Festival and was performed there  in August of 2008.  Sanchez has served
as a preliminary judge for the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) for the past 5 years in the writing track.











Co-Founder Beth McIntosh acting since the age of 8, received her BA in Theatre from the University of Florida. She headed to New
York for an Off-Broadway run of Fredrico Garcia Lorca's
Evil Spell of the Butterfly at the Lamb's Theatre, then it was off to Los Angeles where
she jumped to the "other side" of the business.  She worked as a junior talent agent and manager for such top companies as Endeavor,  
The Chasin Agency and The Personal Management Company. She was accepted into Endeavor's prestigious Agent Training Program and
while getting to work with some of the most talented, inspiring artists and industry professionals a passion for producing was born.  With her
long time mentor Yvonne Suhor, she produced and starred in the World Premiere of
Beyond Java Mountain at Orlando's Studio Theatre and
is now back in South Florida making her creative home at TPT. Some of her favorite roles include an award winning performance as Jackie
in
Hot L Baltimore; Catherine in Proof  and Beth in TPT's critically acclaimed Orange Flower Water.  Beth was named Best Supporting
Actress in Miami Sun Post's  "Best of 2006" issue and received a 'Best Supporting Actress' Carbonell nomination for her portrayal of Alison
in
Brooklyn Boy at GableStage, where she recently finished a run of Neil LaBute's  This Is How It Goes.  She can next be seen in the world
premiere of David Wiltse's
Hatchetman at Florida Stage and encourages you to support the many theatres in South Florida that continue to
bring you exciting and thought provoking work year round. Go see a show!
